Self-Love and Winter Solstice

Posted on December 1, 2023

As the weather goes from calm to brisk, the days grow longer, and the nights become colder we flow into a time of rest, regeneration, and rebirth. This can look like reconnection / new partnerships, creating new traditions, and spending more time engaging in activities that feel nurturing. In tradition, it is also common to desire to be inside more, to run to our comfort zones, and to want to retreat. Rebirth comes with the balance of death, so while these can be very exciting and inspiring times, it can also bring in loss, discomfort, and heavy emotions. This can easily translate into seasonal depression, self-criticizing and codependent behaviors, and lack of motivation without the proper tools, mindset, and support system around you. Here are 3 practices to “try on” while maneuvering through these times to create more balance, clarity, and support for self during these times.

Try On:

-       Grounding, daily. Despite wanting to be indoors, taking mini breaks outside in nature while cultivating and connecting back to the earth are great practices to implement during this time. Meditating often for short periods of time, reading, and journaling, and aromatherapy are all great examples of activities that can be done while reconnecting. If going outdoors can be a bit much, listening to nature sounds during your quiet time or while sleeping can be good for a similar zen effect. (attending or listening to a sound bath can be very calming and healing to the body). We’ve got virtual meditations via our self-love & your chakras series. -        Cultivating & Nurturing Your Relationships. Now is a great time to set intentional time aside to spend with family, loved ones, friends, or partners. Whether romantic, business, or platonic, pouring into the connections within your support system is very grounding, energetically uplifting, and fulfilling. This creates a balance of giving and receiving, allows you to exercise reciprocity, and to submerge within healthy community. (Tell the people you love why you love them, and give thanks for having them in your life by word of mouth of tokens of appreciation. Now is a wonderful time to give back.

-       Creating a Spiritual Practice. Yes, I said create. Whatever your faith-base may be, now is a good time to create a routine that allows you to fully connect and spend intimate time with your higher source, self, or power. If you’re a person who prays, getting creative with the way you do so, could be helpful. Set aside time to specifically pray for peace or over the things you want to see grow, humanity, or even self-developing characteristics. Engaging in ritual often is also great for staying rooted and for setting the foundation of how you want your Spring to flow when it’s time to reap harvest again.

Despite the edge of the weather, this is a beautiful time to start planting seeds that will reap flow, good health, and mental clarity for a fresh new beginning of abundance. It is highly recommended to journal daily, set weekly intentions, and get serious about where you’re investing your time.

Affirm: I flow through life with a balanced approach. I allow myself to be the reflection of what I wish to see in this world. I rest in my faith and allow in new beginnings.
