D.C born Sa-Roc has blessed our Summer Solstice Sunset Wind-Down Playlist. This divine feminine uses powerful knowledge and creative lyricism to give us thee mantra music of the year. Forever is an anthem that reminds you that you are the powerful being you dream yourself to be and that there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Her effortless way of telling us,
“You better shine on em’ baby you’re a star, you better;
be exactly who you are, forever
cus they gone try and change your heart, don’t let em’
cus you’re so damn fine just the way you are.“
This reminds me that there is no shame in being great. That fitting yourself into small spaces to appease other’s insecurities is a disgrace and that you owe it to your soul to shine as bright as your being will allow. There’s nothing wrong with you, and the sooner you realize this, the sooner you find the people who know that too.
Sa-Roc starts the first verse with:
“When I wake up no make-up, half-naked I feel like I’m the sh*t;
pardon my language but hang ups do not define the kid
no, I'm not flawless, I'm scarred up and I'm fine with it,
my body art a laundry list of all of life's unkindnesses.”
Sa-Roc speaks about how our scars are beautiful and that they remind us that the highs are able to feel this good, because the lows have been that low. There’s is beauty in every part of your journey, even the pain and when you can wake up bare and feel your beauty then my friend, you’re winning. That type of love is curated and grown from within, no external validation needed and Sa-Roc gives us these mantras for the solar plexus and sacral chakra vibes.
She then flows into by far one of my favorite lines of the song:
But, I still sip tea and chant Om, and live free…
Here Sa-Roc is reminding us of the importance of staying grounded, spiritually connected, and last but not least, to drink your damn tea.
As the song progresses, Roc gets vulnerable, telling us of her heavy past where suicide and self-harm seemed like the only way to resolve her pain and how those dark experiences have shown her the light, and that she was valued beyond measure. She goes into the last verse with:
“When Roc go in, she too aggressive, that's too masculine;
And her content lil too obsessive, just relax a bit
She say she god, that's narcissistic, just the facts of it.”
This reminds us that when you finally decide to walk in your power, not everyone will like it, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing it anyway. What may come off as aggression to some can be translated as pure passion to others. This is what often translates with someone who’s learning the true meaning of “being soft,” and shifting out of having to always be in protective-mode. Soft is understanding that power is in subtle sustainability , vulnerability, and a gentle confidence. Sa-Roc literally exudes this in every line, stanza, verse, and hook of this song.
Forever is a mantra that will get you motivated and stimulated to get up out of any rut, reminding you of who you are, and what you stand for. Stream it via our Summer Solstice Sunset Wind-Down playlist exclusively curated on TIDAL.
