My ex used to tell me I’m a runner. That in the face of adversary I always pick up my shit and go. That used to really play in my head as I feel that I’m someone who likes to commit and see things through. I started looking at my patterns and I really did begin to question if I had it in me to see something through. I persevered but my self-confidence was shot to hell. But recently I’ve found that I really don’t run from adversary… I run from bullsh*t.
Gone Girl pretty much helped me remember this. SZA starts off the track with blatantly stating what she needs, how very root chakra of her. She says,
“I need more space and security.”
“I need less voices just you and me,”
“I need your touch not your scrutiny,”
“Squeezing too tight boy you’e losing me.”
“…Gone, gone girl. Gone girl.”
That’s when you know you’ve officially severed the cord with something. When no matter how much the memories flood in, or your urge to reconnect may resurface, you really know that there is nothing fulfilling in a past situation. She’s gone girl.
Now the trickiest part of the process is moving on without becoming bitter. Feeling through the emotions enough to acknowledge and release them, but then taking that energy and choosing to do something nurturing.
“Tryna find deeper meaning in nonsense.”
“Tryna grow without hating the process.”
“Tired of anticipating the worst, yeah,”
”Still anticipating the worst…”
That stanza alone was the turning point for me. When i knew I had to walk away and never look back again. Anytime you can’t enter any connection without the fear that someone is going to turn their back on you is a clear indication that ‘YOU DON’T FEEL SAFE.” So what did I do from that point?
I started putting myself in spaces that authentically, felt safe.
Gone Girl is a ballad that talks about the beauty of walking away from a situation that does not serve and confidently. “You better learn how to face it.”
We chose this song to go on the root chakra playlist because it’s not often we’re vulnerable enough to express ourself in such a way that SZA has. One thing about being rooted and grounded though, you are comfortable in your vulnerability and with that, attracts your truest desires.
So don’t shut off to what you want because you may have to walk away from a few situations. Root and ground yourself in the truth’s of your desires, and watch them flow to you.
Now go plant!
A “let it go,” meditation:
*Take a comfortable seat.
Close your eyes, and take 3 slow deep breaths (in through the nose and out through the mouth)
Now as you inhale affirm, “I plant myself in truth.” then exhale and do the same.
Repeat 3x or as many times as needed.
Stream the root chakra playlist, & SZA’s new album SOS via TIDAL.
